Crimps、slopers、pinches、big moves、campusing、

blablabla......

“The Worldcup in Vail went very badly for me this year😬 after a 5th place in Japan I had high expectations and felt verystrong. But unfortunately the comp was already over after Qualifiers 🤦🏻♂️

I'm always trying to analyze my mistakes and unsurprisingly it were the slabbytechnical boulders again that were the problem.
Careful, long speech about my thoughts on routesetting incoming
😄 :I have to say that in my opinion the setting of ourgroup's Qualifiers wasn't divers at all. 3 out of 5 boulders were slabs andonly one boulder was pure fitness on holds, some might say that's the new styleof bouldering, but in my opinion it's bad setting. Bouldering shouldn't only beabout standing on your feet.. When you are done with QualifiCATion and feellike you haven't even climbed today since no boulders were exhausting at all itjust feels wrong to me. I like to fight in boulders, feel the physical strain.Sure slabby boulders are part of the game but they shouldn't be the mostimportant thing in my opinion. Crimps, slopers, pinches, big moves, campusing, jumps, coordination, toe hooks, heel hooks, power endurance,...there are somany things, that's what I love about this sport.
To be fair, it was difficult for the routesetters because the wallin Vail is not great and they did a very good job in both semis and finals. Butstill I wanna shout out to all routesetters to try to set more divers in thefuture in all rounds and espacially also in Qualifiers, I don't think therandomness that some Qualification rounds had, are good for this sport. thereshouldn't be only crimpy boulders nor only volume boulders nor only slabbyones.. lately holds have fAllen out of favor and huge volumes that look coolhave taken over, but a mix of both of them would be the best in my opinion..the style of a lot of boulders has nothing to do with rockclimbing anymore(edit: not meaning slabs necessarily, it occurs on all angles), that's a fact, whether you think it's good or bad is a matter of opinion. In my opinion somefunky boulders are definitely fun, but I don't think we should forget theorigins of this sport!
peace
。”

V16Daniel Woods 感觉找到了知音:“well said man! Def agree with you... a comp should show whichclimber is the best at all angles and styles of climbing. In order to do thiswalls should showcase not just technical/slab terrain but all terrain. Don'tknow why the US is trying to set all technical anyway. We always have beenknown for setting powerful comps... why change US??? I mean comps started outwith a pure climbing style and for some reason it faded out. Not sure why. Thegoal is to showcase finger strength, body tension, and flexibility not who isthe best at stupid human tricks.. American ninja warrior already does that...keep comp climbing core respect”

Guillaume MONDET:“totally agreewith you dude!!”

Alex Khazanov:“ Absolutely!”

kleineschaufel:“You are right Jakob. Ieven fellt at sleep during Qualis. Hope for München.”

Jakob.schubert的补充:“ Like I said slabs are and should always be partof the game. I'm not sure if you watch worldcups, there are many bouldersnowadays that have a special style. It's mostly because routesetters use almostexclusively volumes and not a lot of holds, consequently a lot of boulders aremore about finding the beta than actual power. Again I think that should be apart of it, but not everything. If you are saying in the past it was only poweryou are wrong, slabs have been a part of bouldering comps since theirinvention.”

_jesswalker_:"Fair statement. The "humantricks" and parkour style climbing definitely shouldn't become all compclimbing has to offer. However, I do think it is important to realize that compclimbing isn't rock climbing, they're completely different sets of skills andsetters shouldn't take shit for pushing comp climbing in a unique direction.
