Alpine Ascents on last Cho Oyu acclimatization trip
10:45 a.m. EDT Sep 16, 2003
The Alpine Ascents team is heading up to Camp II today to spend the night. Afterwards they’ll descend down to Advanced Base Camp and wait for some good weather to go for their summit bids. Several other teams on Cho Oyu are also nearing the same stage of acclimatization.

The route up to Camp II, 6800m, has some very steep sections and can be quite icy. For the final summit push, teams will spend the night in Camp III, 7400m, before making the final push to the top. The final push takes about ten hours, and mixed terrain from snow to ice to rock to scree can be expected.

|
