有时候回顾一下历史是有益的,往往当我们回头思考最初的动机时,结局的意义才会显现出来。

有感于论坛里面谈论轻量化装备的帖子太多,而谈论如何使用装备、如何增长技巧的帖子却比较少,不免给人一种不求最合适,但求最轻便,不求最轻便,但求最昂贵的误导。。。

下面是我自己翻译的两篇来自HMG官网的关于“什么是轻量化”以及“轻量化的历史”的文章。

虽然不免有广告之嫌,因为HMG自己就是卖轻量化装备的,但是里面的一些内容还是对新人了解究竟什么是轻量化,轻量化是如何来的,轻量化对户外的意义何在,以及学习一些如何做到轻量化的基本方法,非常有益。

尤其是,我希望通过这两篇文章里一再反复强调的东西,可以促使我们更多的思考:轻量化的精髓到底是什么?除了烧装备以外,更多的是对“更聪明”的玩户外的一种认同!

(本人英文是渣,英语四级没过,大家凑合着看哈。。。)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~正文开始~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
什么是Lightweight/Ultralight 轻量化和极致轻量化?
Initiated by distance hikers, backpackers andclimbers
,lightweight and ultralight refer to a recent and growing trend in outdooradventuring in which participants carry less weight than traditionallyaccepted.  Lightweight and ultralight are philosophies and comprehensivemethodologies which lead to a more simplistic approach to sporting.  Byanalyzing every necessity and maximizing the efficiency of it, participantshave reduced their base pack weights by more than half when adventuring in thewilderness.
由远距离徒步者、背包客和攀登者所开创的轻量化和极致轻量化,是近代户外史上一种对比传统运动追求携带更轻的装备的潮流。轻量化和极致轻量化包含了某种哲理,依靠各种方法减轻装备的重量。通过分析最必须的需求和使效率最大化,尝试轻量化的人甚至可以在户外活动中减少一半的负重。
Hikers and backpackers, for example, traditionally carried packs that were one-third oftheir body weight, or 50-70 lbs.  Today it is generally accepted thatlightweight hikers carry less than 20 lbs of base pack weight making them moReefficient and more skillful athletes while simultaneously allowing them toreduce barriers and more closely interact with Nature.  Lightweightathletes go faster and farther with more agility, versatility and enjoyment.
传统的徒步者和背包客,背负着差不多达到他们体重三分之一(或者50~70磅)(22~32kg)的东西。而今天一般的轻量化徒步只需要少于20磅(9kg)的东西,来让人们能够更有效的活动,更灵敏,更少困难,同时更多地享受大自然。毫无疑问,正是轻量化带来的敏捷、多功能和舒适,使得人们的旅途可以走的更远、更好。
The growing ultralightphilosophy takes lightweight to the next levelin its evolution as participants carry base pack weights under 10 lbs. And more recently, a new super-ultralight philosophy has emerged forparticipants carrying less than 5 lbs. of gear, excluding food, water &fuel.
不断发展的轻量化理念,将轻量化推向新的水平,使得人们可以只背负低于10磅(4.5kg)的东西。而最近的超极限轻量化理论,则将背负水平下降到了低于5磅(2.26kg)——排除水、食物和燃料。
轻量化和极致轻量化的历史:
In the early 1990s, in an attempt to push boundaries and productivity, hikers,backpackers and climbers began to reevaluate the way in which they approachedtheir sports.  These early PIONEERs of the lightweight philosophy startedminimizing their needs and maximizing their efficiency by looking at everypiece of gear they used and asking the questions: Do we need it? Can we make itbetter? Can we make it lighter?
早在1990年,为了促进户外装备的发展,徒步者、背包客和攀登者开始重新评估参与户外运动的方式。这些轻量化先锋开始尝试将他们的所需减少到最小,将装备的利用率最大化,在这个过程中他们提出了三个经典的问题:我需要它吗?我能更好的利用它吗?有更轻的东西可以代替它吗?
They initially analyzed theirheaviest equipment – referred to as the bigthree: shelters, sleeping systems and backpacks.  Loads were lightened byswitching from tents to tarp shelters, which were more versatile and efficientwhen used skillfully.  Sleeping systems were lightened with advancementsin materials technology, such as the use of cuben fiber.  And big, heavypacks were no longer necessary as total packed weight was decreASIng. Cooking systems were simplified, hiking boots were replaced with trail runners,and EVENTually all non-essentials were eliminated.  Early on, thesepioneers had to make their own gear as there was no ultralight
gear available on the market, and they quicklydiscovered how much faster and farther they could move in theBackcountry. They had more agility and energy, and without necessarilyknowing it, they were in the process of revolutionizing the approach to hiking,backpacking and climbing.
于是,他们从最重的装备开始入手——也就是后来被称为三大件的:帐篷、睡眠系统和背包
用金字塔代替传统的帐篷可以减轻重量,而且也更加多才多艺——假如使用巧妙的话。至于睡眠系统的轻量化,则得益于新材料的使用,例如Cuben的发明。其它装备的重量减轻以后,又大又重的背包更是无需存在。炊事系统被简化,传统笨重的徒步靴被轻便的越野跑鞋代替,最终所有不必要的物品都被淘汰了。
开始的时候,这些轻量化先锋不得不自己动手制作轻量化的装备,因为市场上尚未有轻量化装备出售,他们很快就发现利用自己DIY的轻量化装备可以比前人走的更快、更远。于是,这些先锋在徒步、爬山和攀登界发动了轻量化革命。
Lighter packs, lightershelters, lighter sleeping bags, lighter stoves, lighter shoes and lighterclothes all meant decreased weight, lessexpended energy, less required food, and thus, even lighter and lighter packloads.  Ultimately, the lightweight revolution was like a snowball rollinguphill as participants traded weight for skill and intelligence to becomeincreasingly efficient at what they were doing.
轻量化的背包,轻量化的帐篷,轻量化的睡袋,轻量化的炉头,轻量化的鞋子和轻量化的服装,所有这些意味着,更轻的重量,更少的能量消耗,更少的食物需求,因此背包也变得更小更轻了。到了最后,轻量化革命犹如滚雪球一般,促使选择轻量化的人通过更多技巧减少重量,以及在他们从事的运动中学会更聪明地提高效率。
And mostimportantly…everything that was being learned was shared. Through word-of-mouth on the trails, as well as publiCATions bysome of the earliest pioneers, knowledge spread about this change in philosophyand this revolutionizing new approach to outdoor adventuring.
最最重要的是,所有这些进步之所以会被了解,都是来自于分享。通过在山径上的口口相传,以及某些先驱者的出版物,越来越多的人了解了轻量化的理念,并发明出轻量化的新方法。
而今天,革命仍在继续!
轻量化的好处:
Going light is a rapidlygrowing trend in outdoor adventuring. Initially led by distance hikers, backpackers and climbers, it is now catchingon for mountaineering, cycling, kayaking, weekend hiking, camping andcanoeing.  Why carry unnecessarily heavy loads when safe, more efficientalternatives exist? By researching lightweight and ultralight gearalternatives, athletes are learning they can do more and perform better byworking smarter, not harder.
轻量化趋势在户外界极速发展。最开始带头的是那些远距离徒步者、背包客和攀登家(攀岩攀冰),而现在这一理念也逐渐被登山家、骑自行车者、皮划艇运动员、周末出游的人、露营者和划独木舟的人所接受。在保证安全的情况下,为何不选择用更有效的替代物取代那些没必要存在的重量呢?通过研究轻量化和极致轻量化装备,户外爱好者们发现他们可以更聪明而非更艰难的旅行
选择轻量化的5大好处:
效率  行动力  敏捷  舒适  安全
轻量化适合你吗?
Going light is not about sacrificing safety or every last bit of comfort.  Nor is it about achieving specificweight standards.  Going light is about getting smarter.  Going lightis about getting simpler.  Going light is about gaining skill andefficiency by safely minimizing your essentials and replacing inappropriategear.
选择轻量化并不意味着牺牲安全性或者任何一点舒适度。同样也并不意味着,非得达到某个重量单位。
选择轻量化其实是选择变得更聪明。
选择轻量化其实是选择让旅行更纯粹。
选择轻量化其实是一种技巧选择更好的装备替换掉你不需要的东西的同时保证安全。
Lightweight is right for everyone! Regardless of your sport, it makes sense to researchand take full advantage of the latest ultralight technologies and methodologiesavailable you – there are benefits!  And lightening your load is a benefitthat will increase your efficiency, your performance and your enjoyment, giventhat it is done safely and at a level appropriate for your skill and ability.
轻量化适合任何人!无论你从事的是何种户外运动,最新的轻量化技巧都会对你有益!减轻你的负重,有助于改善你的效率、提高你的成绩和让你享受到更多的乐趣,只要你的技巧和能力能保证你的安全。
所以,从今天就开始轻量化吧!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~废话分割线~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

以上文章中一再出现的单词:效率、必须、聪明、更好的享受自然……
我想,已经是对轻量化究竟在追求什么的最好回答。

当我们在讨论烧什么装备才更轻更好的时候,永远不要忘记,通过筛选不必要的装备,替换无效的装备,来逼迫自己对路线了解的更加全面、对风险评估的更加彻底、对装备的性能掌握的更加丰富……从而培养起来贯穿这个过程始终的:独立思考的能力、智慧的增加和精益求精的精神,才是轻量化追求者们真正的、最初的动力!

而它们所导向的,也根本不是什么烧钱烧装备,恰恰相反,假使一个人不具备轻量化的真正精神,即便让他拿到最好的装备,也可能被糟蹋掉,而具备这种精神本质的人,即使没有装备,也要自己DIY出来。

写的不错,轻量化思想在很多方面和极简主义生活方式非常接近。比如:
减少你所拥有的物品。
去掉不用的物品。
尽可能多的使用你所有的物品。
一物多用等。

在使出行变得轻松的同时更加科学、环保。
